Description of Work: Kimberly Jane Simms is an accomplished performance and published poet who can put POETRY BANG in your classroom with collaborative learning, brain breaks, and writing.

Artist / Group Information: Kimberly Simms is an award winning poet, performer, and writer as well as an arts integration expert. She is the 2016 Carl Sandburg Writer-in-Residence, a member of the SC Humanities Council’s Speakers Bureau, a South Carolina Arts Commission Approved Artist, and a SMART Arts teaching artist.
Mrs. Simms has a proven track record for using inquiry based learning to team teach with public school teachers as she infuses collaborative learning, creative writing, and theater into a variety of content areas. This summer Mrs. Simms will be a facilitator at the Greenville County School’s Arts Integration Training Institute where she will lead the creative writing immersion.
Mrs. Simms brings a unique perspective as a South Carolina Certified Language Arts and Gifted and Talented Educator with ten years of experience, as well as five years of experience working as a teaching artist to integrate poetry and theater across the curriculum. Mrs. Simms has a master's degree in English from Clemson University with a Creative Writing Thesis, as well as a bachelor's in English from Furman University, plus an additional 24 hours in graduate education classes. She is a published poet whose work is included in the South Carolina Poetry Archives at Furman University. She was a member of the Greenville Slam Team that won the South East Regional Poetry Slam in 1998.
